A DETAILED ITINERARY FOR THE 4-DAY TANZANIA CAMPING SAFARI

ARRIVE IN TANZANIA
You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to a hotel in Arusha or Moshi. You will meet your driver-guide there, who will brief you on your upcoming 4-day Tanzania Camping safari. Afterwards, you can relax until the following day.

DAY 1: ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
-Non-game-viewing travel time: 1:40 hours
-Distance: 110.33km.
After breakfast, your driver/guide will meet you at your hotel to take you to Tarangire National Park for a game drive. The park features stunning landscapes, including a plain known as the "Small Serengeti" due to its terrain and the density of animals. The Tarangire River winds through the park, especially during dry months, attracting numerous animals to its banks. Tarangire's natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodlands, giant African Baobab trees, and vast swamp areas in the south. This park is renowned for hosting some of the largest elephant herds in Africa.
This African national park is also home to three rare species of animals – the greater kudu, the fringed-eared oryx, and a few Ashy starlings. The park is abundant in buffalo, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, impalas, gazelles, warthogs, and sometimes wild dogs. Additionally, it is home to over 400 species of birds. During lunch, we will stop at a designated picnic site and continue the game drive until evening, when we will head to the campsite for dinner and a restful night. Dinner and overnight stay at Tarangire Campsite.

DAY 2: TARANGIRE – SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
-Non-game viewing travel time: 4 hours.
-Distance: 242 km.
After breakfast, we exit Tarangire and head towards Serengeti National Park, passing through the beautiful, high-lying farmland of Karatu and across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (but not through the crater this day). During the drive, we will pause to enjoy a picnic-style lunch before driving into the heart of wild Africa – Serengeti National Park, with its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to central Serengeti, known as Seronera. This area is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source and attracts a diverse range of wildlife representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. We will arrive and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti. Dinner and overnight rest will be at one of the public campsites in the Serengeti. Dinner and overnight at Tumbili Public Campsite.

DAY 3: SERENGETI - NGORONGORO CARTER
-Non-game-viewing travel time: 4 hours
-Distance: 147 km
After breakfast, we continue with game viewing as we make our way east, returning toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). Once in the NCA, we can enjoy a picnic-style lunch before continuing our drive. There will be options (at an additional charge) to visit a Maasai village or stop at the Olduvai Museum. The day will conclude at Simba Campsite, near the Ngorongoro Crater, where dinner will be served before your night’s rest. Please note that this location tends to be cold and windy (at an elevation of 2300m above sea level), so be sure to bring an extra layer of clothing. Even a knit cap and light gloves might feel comforting. Dinner and overnight at Simba Campsite.

DAY 4: NGORONGORO CRATER – ARUSHA/JRO
-Non-game viewing travel time: 3 hours
-Distance: 181.21 km.
After an early breakfast, we will descend over 600 meters into the crater for a half-day game drive. Supported by a year-round water supply and abundant fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater hosts various animals, including herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthogs, hippos, and giant African elephants. Another major attraction of this picturesque destination is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard. This is one of the few remaining locations where you might see black rhinos. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake frequented by hippos and flamingos. Here, we will enjoy a picnic lunch. As wonderful as the crater is, it has a diameter of only 20km. Therefore, 4 to 5 hours is enough to see it all. We then ascend out of the crater and drive back to Arusha (or we can drop you off at Kilimanjaro Airport).
